Data Governance at Appalachian State University cultivates a transparent process for managing high-quality, accurate data that allows the institution to evaluate and innovate in order to achieve its goals and strategic metrics.

The enterprise-wide Data Governance framework strives to:

• Guide users toward viewing data as a key institutional asset, and thus provide a well-defined structure to facilitate the effective management and use of data with a focus on continuous improvement.
• Develop and manage consistent cross-functional data definitions to enable common understandings around our data.
• Ensure the integrity, reliability, availability and compliance in regard to institutional data.
• Decrease the risk of data misuse through the implementation of policies, standards and procedures.
• Support a data culture and knowledge infrastructure that encourages data use which is transformed into accessible, actionable information and insights.
